About Federation

The Republican Public Association “Greco-Roman, Freestyle and Women’s Wrestling Federation” is the national sports organization responsible for the development, coordination and promotion of Olympic wrestling disciplines in Kazakhstan at the international level.

The Federation was established in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and is a full member of United World Wrestling (UWW), the international governing body for wrestling. The Federation was founded in 1992. Since then, Kazakhstani wrestling has been consistently strengthening its position on the world stage. Today, the Federation organizes national championships and tournaments, as well as coordinates the participation of national teams in international competitions.

Since its establishment, the sports organization has been developing three disciplines included in the Olympic Games programme:
• Greco-Roman wrestling;
• freestyle wrestling;
• women’s wrestling.

Over the years, the Federation has been headed by experienced leaders who have made a significant contribution to the development of Olympic wrestling disciplines. Since the mid-1990s, Daulet Turlykhanov has been actively involved in the Federation’s activities, working within its governing structures and later receiving the status of Honorary President. From 2001 to 2005, the position of President was held by Yerlan Kozhasbay. During this period, the institutional foundations of the organization were strengthened. Later, the Federation was headed by Serik Sultangali. From 2014 to 2021, Sauat Mynbayev served as President of the Federation. From 2021 to 2025, the Federation was led by Daulet Turlykhanov. At the extraordinary conference held on December 5, 2025, Yerkin Okasov was elected President of the Federation. The leadership of the Federation pays constant attention to strengthening wrestling infrastructure, training coaching personnel, improving the refereeing corps and developing the work of regional federations. Today, the Federation supports the development of wrestling schools across the country and creates conditions for the high-quality preparation of young athletes for international competitions.

The main objectives of the Federation are:
• systematic development of Greco-Roman, freestyle and women’s wrestling;
• organization of national and international championships;
• formation of national teams and their preparation for international competitions;
• improvement of the professional qualifications of coaches and referees;
• enhancement of the refereeing system in accordance with UWW standards;
• development of mass participation and youth sports;
• preparation of athletes for the Olympic Games, World Championships and Asian Championships.

As a member of UWW, the Federation follows international requirements related to participation in competitions and the development of wrestling. The UWW headquarters are located in Vevey, Switzerland. The combination of the traditions of the national wrestling school and modern training technologies strengthens the competitiveness of Kazakhstani wrestlers at the global level. At the same time, the Federation considers the improvement of infrastructure, modernization of the training system and expansion of international cooperation to be its strategic priorities. The main goal is to educate and develop a new generation of champions and to strengthen Kazakhstan’s sporting authority.
